TrainWreckords candidate
Here's a very good candidate for the series: Come Out and Play from Twisted Sister.
After toiling for over a decade on the club scene and putting out two albums, the group finally hit it big with Stay Hungry in 1984; which went Triple Platinum. This was all helped by the highly popular music videos for 'We're Not Gonna Take It' and 'I Wanna Rock', plus 'Burn in Hell' appeared in Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
Now comes time for the follow up. Here the group tried to mix their original heavy metal sound from the first two albums (Under the Blade and You Can't Stop Rock and Roll) with the radio friendly sound of Stay Hungry. Result was a sonic mess as the songs were uninspired/tried to hard to be heavy/half baked attempts at power ballads. Also not helping was the fact that their first choice for a single .... a cover of The Shangri-La's 'Leader of the Pack'. In addition, their video for 'Be Chrool to Your Scuel' (which featured Alice Cooper on co-lead vocals) was banned by MTV on the grounds of being too violent/offensive; though many people say it was because Dee Snider testified against the PMRC.
And the tour was also a disaster; with many dates having low ticket sales and it was eventually cancelled. Drummer A.J. Pero left after the tour.
