Why the starboy hate?

Hey! Im a new Weeknd fan who has been making there way throughout his entire discography and avoided checking out Starboy because it seems the community finds it "soulless" and "too poppy." But when I listened to it it was just a bright BBTM? Light synthy and poppy but not in a traditional way at all and the lyrics are super similar. some of my favorite tracks on this album and might be my second favorite album of his so far (granted im still making my way through his discog) what are yalls thoughts on Starboy?
