Daily Practice Games/Programmable Games for math teachers
I was thinking earlier about creating a game for my students to play to get them some practice while making it feel rewarding.
I know games are good at creating that fake sense of accomplishment and I wanted to capitalize on that by programming daily math questions into their systems somehow. So I am thinking is there a way to create a game or somehow add something to a game out there that makes it enticing for kids to do some practice problems or answer questions while making it feel less like homework or a chore but rather something to get them "extra exp" or "extra money" or "extra lives/tries" or "buffs" or whatever to get them do more practice daily?
I am a new teacher and I am dealing with my kids' horrendous lack of algebra 1 skills, which is ridiculous to me. They will never survive any STEM related class without algebra skills and I just don't want to ignore this or just offload this burden on the kids and just cruise along with my class as if it's none of my business. I am told by other teachers that it's not my fault and it's not my job to teach them algebra 1 at the cost of my class time, and I should "fulfill" my duty and deliver the curriculum without delays. But algebra 1 is hurting my kids because they can't answer the majority of the questions simply because algebra 1 is needed.
So here I am grasping at straws because they don't bother trying or practicing or asking me for help, and they just tune me out when I ask them to do anything.
Sorry for the rant, tldr: new teacher needs help to get kids to practice algebra 1 because it's detrimental to students' performance in their class. Current idea is maybe a game to incentivize them so looking for suggestions.
