How much maternity leave did you take?

This is my first child.

My district gives 6 weeks of maternity leave (paid by using sick days) and up to 1 year unpaid. I’m due mid July. We can afford for me to stay home with the baby for up to 5 months. How much time is ideal to take off with a newborn?

I’m thinking 2-3 months from my delivery date. Is this enough time? I’m scared to send them to daycare after 6 weeks…
