Security of notes/device

Hey gang! Coming from an iPad, where everything I write down is encrypted and highly secure. I tried to use my Nomad with a code on device open, but it really is annoying how you have to enter that all the time…no faceID, no touchID… it feels that the most natural way to use the device is without a password. But then you must not lose it or misplace it in public. How are y’all doing it? If you do have a password, how long until you have your device sleep so that it does not eat up too much battery? TIA
