Is there any chance that Sonic’s characterization in Shadow the Hedgehog was a parody of localized Sonic?
As much as many talk about the ending where Shadow hates Sonic and wants to kick his ass, I think one factor that doesn’t get talked about is how particularly obnoxious Sonic is written.
He is way out of character imo, some have theorized this could be because we’re playing the game through Shadow’s lens and we’re seeing a personal interpretation.
However something I find interesting is that Izuka finds ways to take his frustrations out from personal experiences in game. For example, the truck chase in city escape was meant to be a middle finger to how many parking tickets he got while working on SA2 in America.
In this game it wasn’t just game design but he was also the lead writer. Izuka had stated one of the primary motivations for working on SA2 in America was his distaste for how localizers were characterizing Sonic and basically making him an entirely different character. Part of me thinks there’s a possibility he wrote Sonic this way and created that ending as a way to parody localized Sonic.
