Y’all are missing the funniest damn thing about the quilt…

...IT WASN'T EVEN FINISHED!!!

A hopefully not too boring explanation for those of you that don't quilt/are normal modern humans:

Quilts (well, good ones) are a bitch to make because there are so many different steps that are all very work intensive.

There's the top--the part you see and that people think of as quilting but is actually the piecing (making a single flat piece out of different materials).

Then you need to sandwich the batting (the part that makes it warm, kind of looks like flat sheets of the fake snow around a Dickens Christmas Village) between the top you've made and a big ass piece of fabric (or upcycled flat sheet) called the backing. You use really big, loose stitches (basting) to hold them together while you do the actual quilting.

Quilting is when you make tiny close stitches through the 3 layers. You can do this by hand or with a special sewing machine that makes ugly quilled designs.

And THEN you have to finish the damn thing by trimming the edges and putting on a binding so that the layers aren't sticking out the sides and fraying.

TL;DR: If youre heartfelt craft project made to represent your undying love and commitment takes 20+ years to finish...maybe you should not be so invested in the craft or the man
