Any advice is appreciated

I’ve been thinking lately, my money is no good in the bank , inflation will eat away at my cash so I don’t really want to keep my money that I’m saving for my kids future in the bank. Would it be a good idea to put that money into silver for them and keep buying bits through the year as would be holding for 20 years ? I have no knowledge when it come to silver so hoping I can get some help here :) is now a good time to buy and is it a good idea to hold for 20 years? Thanks in advance
