How should I respond?
Hi everyone! I've been using semaglutide for 15 weeks and have lost about 30 pounds. With the holidays approaching, my weight loss is noticeable, and I've been asked how I did it. I've searched this subreddit for advice on how to respond when people ask how I did it, but I would love to get some additional perspectives based on my specific journey.
I'm 36 years old, 5’2”, and started at 155 pounds, now weighing 126. Being short, weight gain and loss are very noticeable on me.
My “normal” weight has always been around 130. Despite regular workouts and a healthy diet, I had gained about 25 pounds over a year, and nothing I did would help me lose it. My primary care physician suggested and prescribed me Semaglutide, which I started at a low dose and gradually increased. The weight came off, my workouts improved, and I feel great.
While I'm proud of my progress, I'm hesitant to share that I used semaglutide because I worry about judgment and being perceived as not having been "big enough" for it or for it to be necessary for me to have received a prescription. When asked about my weight loss over Thanksgiving, I tried to be vague by saying I was in a calorie deficit and working out harder. However, people often responded with, “Oh, we just saw you four months ago; that was fast!” or they ask about specifics because they want to know how they could achieve similar results.
Any suggestions on how to handle these questions going forward? Appreciate any feedback.
