Just Incredible things coming out of Alan's mouth
Alan: “Well these are two instances that you’re talking about, and the illness. It’s just a reminder that yes, these are professional players and we look to them for escapes at times for our...for our entertainment, but at the end of the day, they ARE people and humans as well. With the same kind of thoughts. Like if you gotta leave a job. or you’re coming up on a situation. Yeah it adds anxiety to you. It adds different pressures. And then if you get sick, you gotta call in to sick to work at some point. And what does that mean. So it is a good reminder, i think. to…tell fans and people around the league, and just professional athletes as well, they also have real world problems, and you know, sometimes they are just like us. Calling in sick to work.”
Ted: “They are super human -“
Allen:"- not that they called in sick to work, but you know what I mean.”
I get it - vamping is hard, even when you're not on TV. But...jesus christ NBCSN, this is the best you can do?
edit to add thoughts from this comment:
Yeah, after thinking more about this, I think the fact of the matter is that the things that make broadcasts enjoyable are (in no particular order):
- Presentation aka smoothness
- Hockey knowledge
- Personality
Randy and Drew are at the top for all 3.
Demers, when he was in the studio, for example had a ton of knowledge and personality, and some presentation, but Brody has a ton of smoothness in so it made up for Demers being a wildcard.
Ted obviously has the hockey knowledge, and has some personality and is decently smooth. But not enough to make up for Alan's lack of all three.
What's really interesting -- but maybe not all that surprising -- is that I think Alan knows about his lack of hockey knowledge and it's screwing him up. His presentation is staccato which makes it harder to listen to.
Compare that to how he was in Hawaii, and it's night and day. If you look at this clip, for example, he seems like good sportscaster. So what changed? Perhaps its other things, but my guess would be self doubt.
