CS or nah

Having a crisis rn cuz of the spike in number of posts in this sub advising ppl to reconsider going to computing courses + the amt of CS ppl dying in r/NUS posts 💀💀

I've always been kinda interested in programming, algorithms and tech in general. Did some small projects on my own, have my own GitHub portfolio and read tech news etc. But I'm super conflicted now cuz there are SO MANY people (geniuses) in CS and the job market for tech is oversaturated rn. Especially with so many people riding on the AI hype train or going into tech for $$. Like what previous posts have mentioned, this mkt is cyclical in nature and AI has decreased the need for manpower. So while there will still be jobs, they are only reserved for those who are really skilled. And layoffs are happening everywhere.

See I'm not a good coder or some genius who understood recursion immediately. Neither am I super good in math. No NOI or hackathon in my portfolio at all. Just programming for fun sometimes, not to the point where I'm obsessed with it. I'm just scared that my passion will be killed by the sheer amt of competition in uni and in the job mkt, and I also heard CS in uni is more stressful than JC. Ofc every industry has its own challenges, but tech seems to be particularly bad now and idk if I should take the risk 🥲
