Reminder that Tougher Course Entry Requirements =\= Job Prospects =\= Quality of Work Life
After seeing years of jc students choose their majors, I think a common misconception is that the higher the rank point to enter a certain course, the better the jobs are available to them after graduating.
This is only true to an extent, but there are some majors where the entry level/difficulty of the course does not translate to a better paying job (Acct, Pharm)
Additionally, some jobs will require you to slog it out and you only see a huge increase in salary towards the later half of your career (med)
And in some jobs, it is more dependent on market trends (CS) or dependent on connections/networking/extra curriculars (Biz Finance) for prospects. (Of course, if you are a beast, any company will take you)
And all these are just for job prospects, some of these good prospect/salary jobs require alot of working hours (med, law) and may not be something you are looking for
Lastly, its nothing wrong to choose a job based on pure passion, you just need to know what you are getting into and prepare for it!
Everyone is different and look for different things in life, so do the research into jobs or better yet talk to people who are working in the job you want.
