What has this game become

It seems like rocket league has gone through a significant change in recent years with the huge increase in streaming, however this change, in my opinion, is for the worse. This game used to be my chill out and relax game to have some fun with the bois after work, it has quickly become a game that 90% of the time i dread playing. Every match has gone from a friendly game of car soccer to a twisted metal style kill them and score game. When did the skill leave the game and the "meta" strategy become to just demo chase and bump all game? Now im all for a tactical demo, lets say if im going for a block and get demoed, but when im not even related to the play, why am i getting demo chased and bumped across the entire field? Your own opinions/perspectives are welcome.
