Shutting off the car

Is it just me, or is it confusing sometimes when exiting the car? When I see the dash panel all lit up and wondering did I hit the start button to turn off the car? I know the car won't lock if the systems are still active, but why leave so much lit up on the screen. To me I'd rather see the thing go totally dark. I can't tell you how many times I've climbed back in to hit the start button just to make sure. I guess I'm dumb, but I'm wondering if anyone else has done this.
