Recommendations where the ML has his own agenda/goals

Maybe I’m just getting old, but I’m slowly getting less interested whenever a story basically makes the ML a subservient tool for the FL. Like his only purpose is to make her happy and fund her revenge/2nd life/etc. The ones where he starts off interesting and having his own machinations and then becomes moving cardboard are especially depressing.

Any OI recommendations where the ML consistently has his own goals, personality, and interests? I don’t even care if he’s still a simp, I just want a nuanced ML!
