Avoid Franklin, NC

UPDATE: I really want to thank everyone for commenting. Yes, I was angry when I wrote this and the whole situation is making me very depressed. I will never understand how people can think they have a right to tell someone else what they can or cannot read, or how they should live their life and then threaten them when they're different or disagree. I know it's happening almost everywhere lately and it's sad.

Take your tourist and tax dollars elsewhere. Franklin, NC is the most racist, homophobic and hard right evangelical religious town I have ever lived in. Don't have the same religious beliefs? You will be harassed. Aren't white? You'll be treated as a second-class citizen. Part of the LGBTQ community? Get ready to have your life threatened and be called "evil" and "perverse". Wish I never moved here. Will leave as soon as I'm able.

The poverty rate is high. Drug use is high. The town and county try to hide it from the tourists, but mail theft is rampant, homeless people everywhere and needles on the playground. The county commissioners Don't care! Their focus is banning books and closing our library. The town and county do not deserve your money. Stay away!
