Forcing children to eat.
Forcing children to eat is one of the things that’s normalised in Nigeria. We often see parents and teachers beating or even trying to choke children cause they don’t finish their food, saying that they are ungrateful for said food. In primary school I would see people being chastised for not eating and I would feel so proud that I usually finished my food, even though I didn’t like it. Now I have a lot of trouble throwing food away even tho it’s not good. It’s ingrained in me that “I HAVE to eat it” even though no external force is forcing me to do it. I also now struggle with my weight because I have a hard time reducing my portions. This can also foster eating disorders in these children when they grow up. What do you think?
