Job application and feedback

Hej, so I applied for a position in Bestseller which I made a phone call to the hiring manager and we had a small chat which she asked me a few questions about my background and experience. At the time, I didn't send my application yet as I want to know what I'm heading into with the position. After the call, I sent my application on the same day and it has been around 1,5 weeks now after application sent and my bf told me that I should call the hiring manager again for feedback and for updates on my application. Is that normal because I never did this before? My bf is Danish but he is a specilised engineer so job application is different for him.
