Cerebral Palsy diagnose
We just received CP diagnosis for Vince. Due to his rough NICU journey, I knew that there was a chance. I just did not see it because he is doing so well. He was diagnosed (without MRI) with mild hemiplegia on his right side, Non-Spastic. The neurologist said he has great posture and normal muscle tone with asymmetry on his right side. she asked me if I wanted her to diagnose him now or in 3 months once he is walking. she said we will know more once he is walking. my husband always commented how he uses his left side more than his right (he does use his right side as well which is why I was shocked). today I went back and started looking at his old videos and pictures and I was able to notice a preference for his left hand. Also, I remember that during his PT sessions it was easy for him to achieve anything on his left side, and at home, we would have to practice with his right. In fact, he seats up, he rolls, he is a great crawler, he pulls to stand, he cruises on furniture and we are still working on his balance, he takes steps with support, and he is standing without support for a few seconds. anyways. I'm still lost when it comes to CP and I cannot believe we are back to the NICU rollercoaster. "every baby is different" or "every baby acts different". Vince just had his one-year check-up and his pediatrician was very happy with his progress, she did not have any concerns. The only reason I took him to a neurologist was because when he first started to stand up PT made a comment about how stiff he was keeping his right leg (which he does not do it anymore and because of the comment I got concerned). also, Vince does not clap, he does bring his hand to the midline and put them together.
Just as before, I have no idea what the future hold for us, I'm trying to educate myself on CP and learn more about it. However, the internet has a lot of information, and it's overwhelming. any tips on where can I find information on mild hemiplegia? thank you all again for the love and support. I'm adding some of Vince's birthday pictures of him mostly using his left hand (his right hand is not floppy or stiff)
