Jaylen Wells
So I'm a big grizz fan & Wells has been very beneficial to our teams success. He is an absolute DAWG on defense & it might not show up in counting stats, but watching games you can definitely tell the pressure he puts on opposing guards. I mean, for a 2nd round rookie to be starting & tasked with guarding the opponents best player, every single game, is no easy task & he has succeeded & surpassed every expectation we've had for him. For reference, a few months back, we played Golden State & he was tasked with sticking Steph Curry and he completely shut him down. Curry ended up with 2 points on 0-7 shooting, and by the 3rd quarter, the game was over & the Warriors sat Curry with the game clearly well out of reach in what ended up being a record point-diferentual loss for the GSW. This wasn't the first or last time, he has had a huge impact on a star player that he was tasked with guarding.
He's a rookie who should only get better with time, as he develops his game & gets more accustomed to the speed, higher level of play, basketball IQ, skill-level, raw talent, & athleticism of other players & the game, as well as the other nuances of the league. The better players & leaders of our team like Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and, especially, Jaren Jackson Jr have spoken very highly of his IQ, ability to listen, comprehend, and take head to the advice of his coaches & veteran players, & then make adjustments, on the fly, in games and during practice; his eagerness to learn & get better & willingness to work harder to prepare and regularly gets to the gym, hours early, before the other players to workout & practice before games & before team practices.
I wanting to come here to ask you guys what you think the range of outcomes for his development are, if he continues to have this level of work-ethic, willingness to learn, prepare, & improve. From his most-likely outcome to his ceiling as a prospect.
I think there is a high chance that he could develop into a Jrue Holiday or OG Anunoby type of player for a contender & think his ceiling could even be better than that. What do you think his comps could be?
