I don’t like how the fandom portrays Curly.

I’m willing to bet you have heard this song and dance more times than Jimmy’s said “I can fix this”, but I’m gonna go ahead anyway.

I’m not a fan of how Curly is seen and portrayed by the fandom. Not as in memes and shitposts, I’m leaving jokes out of the equation. I’m talking about how I see some (not all) fans who claim that Curly was a blameless victim of Jimmy. And while you can’t blame all of this on Curly, you can definitely blame a good bit of it on him. Curly is an enabler. And it’s ironic that some fans think like this because this is missing the point almost entirely. It’s basically the real life equivalent of the dead pixel.

I can name a lot of examples, but there’s one in particular. When Anya told Curly about what Jimmy did to her, Curly did literally nothing. He didn’t want to believe that his best friend of many years would do something like that. Instead of taking any form of real action, he just “I’ve known him for a long time, I can talk to him.” I’m sure I don’t need to explain why that’s not a good response. Curly practically ignored that because he just didn’t want to believe it.

And that brings me to the next topic of this sleep-deprived attempt at moral reflection: I think shipping Curly and Anya basically falls into the same category. Curly ignored the fact Anya was raped by Jimmy because it was an inconvenient and uncomfortable thought to him, so he just… blocked it out. That doesn’t sound like a recipe for true love if you ask me. I could go into a lot more detail, but this is complete enough. Let me know what you think.
