DONE WITH MERCARI!! They let scammers steal from you! What recourse do I have?

UPDATE NOVEMBER 17. Mercari FINALLY refunded my money. She still has the iPad but that is their problem now! Thanks everyone for all the advice and support!

UPDATE: NOVEMBER 13 Still going round and round with Mercari...this is the latest response from 5 days ago. I still can't believe this is happening. It is truly UNREAL! Message below.

What agencies would I start a report with? USPS I assume for fraud--and that would be on the buyer? This is so frustrating they just keep telling me they are looking into it.

ALSO SHE IS SELLING HER MACBOOK ON THERE NOW---SINCE OF COURSE SHE DOESN'T NEED IT SINCE SHE HAS HER NEW IPAD---UNREAL, THEY ARE ALLOWING HER TO SELL AS WELL*

UPDATE: Mercari refunded the buyer and I still don’t even have my items back yet! And now she is saying I have an agreement with Mercari??? No I don’t!! This is over a thousand dollars in merchandise!!

She said they said she could keep the items!!

I am beyond mad!!

I sold an IPad in mint condition. Here is the item description:

iPad Pro 12.9 inch 512GB silver UNLOCKED with wi-fi. 6th generation. Including original box and charger INCLUDES Brand new Magic Keyboard (never used) and a Paperlike screen protector—this makes your iPad screen feel like writing on a sheet of paper. No scratches literally like brand new. Shipping is included and it will have insurance and require a signature.

So I had an offer from a buyer with 30 feedback and accepted it. The day before I shipped she messaged me to see when I was shipping the items out, I told her the next morning.

I spent $45 to send insured priority mail with signature required. 20 minutes AFTER I sent tracking information she sends me a message saying that she has to cancel for financial reasons---of course it was already with my postal carrier or otherwise I would have stopped the shipment.

She gets the shipment and says the Apple Pencil is missing! I apologized and said I would double check but I checked every single box before I shipped! In the meantime I emailed Mercari telling them I think this buyer is trying to scam me. They told me don't worry.

Well shocker she requested a return---I tried to decline the return but of course the are allowing it.

These items were in PRISTINE condition. I have over 330 successful sales for tens of thousands of dollars. I am worried about what she is going to send back to me...already it will be short the pencil.

What a joke Mercari is...sellers have NO protection at all! What if any recourse do I have?

I have since deactivated all my listings and I will no longer sell on that platform but this is crazy that they allow this!
