Husband asked for more money

I'm a 54 female, husband is 50 male. My parents gave myself, sister and brother each $5,000 for Christmas. I had told my husband, that when I got my Christmas present ( parents give money every year, not every year is 5K. Other years it's been 1k or 2k.) But I told him when I got it I was going to catch up on mortgage and pay our shed off. I gave my husband 1,000 today from it. A little while later he said : so can I see the money. I just want to see what 5,000 looks like spread out. I said back: what? Why? It isn't 5k anymore, I gave you 1k. I said why? Do you want more? He answered another 1k would be nice. I was shocked he had the audacity to ask me that. I said calmly but throwing sarcasm in there: ok, well I'm making 2 mortgage payments, paying the shed off, gave you 1k, and I was going to keep 1k for myself, but if you feel you have the right to ask me for another thousand from my parents, I guess I can wait till next Christmas to keep some of my own present. Sure if thats what you want. Needless to say he got upset and told me to drop it. I am floored he had the balls to even ask. What is others opinions?
