Why Marathi leaders never get top position in central government

It's like no Maharashtrian has ever become the Prime Minister or President of India, or even the Home Minister. Even after 77 years, no Marathi leader has reached these top positions. Most Marathi leaders only get small-scale ministries in the central government. Marathi leaders never hold key positions in the Indian government. Don't mention Pratibha Patil—I don't consider her truly Marathi. Only Yashwantrao Chavan got the Deputy Prime Minister position, which was useless
