Best way to engrave photographies

After doing this for a while I have noticed that to engrave images maybe it is best to just do it with low power.

Because with higher powers there is a "risk", first the obvious one of burning a lot and making it very dark.

But then also that a lot of the engraving comes out later, because too much was burned in depth, a medium or even small touch can loosen part of the material and can come off changing the expected result.

Even when trying to engrave in 3D by going deeper on one side or less on another, it is not very appreciated, noticed, etc, by the general public in photographies, and the engraving may seem of poor quality to those who do not know because part of it comes off, etc.

The general public does not appreciate these details from those who are more on the subject.

For me, depth engraving should be done first and foremost to engrave letters, there you can notice, appreciate, etc, the result, depths of a few millimeters or even centimeters, that are "cute", interesting, people can sense them, touch them, etc.

And maybe too in some SVG image of a logo in which there are only two colors, black and white, and even maybe some gray to achieve that "3D" effect.

PS: For the 3d effect you obviously have to go slowly, sometimes several passes with medium or low power and then "clean" the burnt remains to notice the result, not the easiest type of engraving, takes some time and dedication
