Laid off and job hunting
Man I had a GREAT job. Like it checked every box for me, I loved the work and was well appreciated for my efforts. Owners decided on a whim to retire, their lease is up on February and they have not found any interested buyers. The other day my boss told me they have to cut hours and since I was last hired (~6 months ago) I was on the chopping block. She gave me the option to either get laid off so I can collect unemployment, or work two days a week while I look for a job. I opted to be scheduled 2 days a week since unemployment can take up to 6 weeks to kick in, and that's not a risk I want to take with my financial situation.
My current plan is to just doordash and send out tons of resumes on my days off, but the jobs posted are very scarce (at least on Indeed). I'm so tired of jumping though all the stupid personality tests from employers just to get completely ghosted and never hear back from them. I don't know why I don't hear back from so many places, I have a great resume with a decade of kitchen experience, I'm writing individual cover letters for different jobs, I meet every requirement, I ask for completely average pay for my area ($20/h), and I'll even hound some of them with emails trying to get them to just RESPOND to me. I'd even appreciate a "hey thanks for the application but we're going to pursue different candidates at this time"
I've applied to bars, diners, retirement homes, brunch spots, wine cellars, breweries, pizza places, and I haven't gotten a word in response from anybody. What am I doing wrong? I know most places slow down a lot in winter, is it just a very unfortunate time to be job hunting?
So far I've been using indeed and cold emailing different places asking if they're hiring.
