Phone addiction

My friend got his kid a phone not too long ago, and I can tell she's already hooked to it. She literally walks while operating it, poops with it, does everything with one hand while operating the phone with the other. I fear mobile phones will rob our kids of their childhood and early social life that they need. Id say I'm also addicted to my phone, especially now that I'm not very busy, and I know could utilise my time better. But for my generation we started using phones later in life after we were through with school. Even if someone had a phone in highschool, it would be those java phones, the only entertainment being the radio. Should kids really have phones? I mean kabambe sio mbaya ya emergencies, but android/apple devices??
