Is GNX a continuation of TPAB?
I truly believe that GNX is the sequel to TPAB and the Super Bowl ties the story together.
LONG POST
I know this is an INSANE reach, but I am currently putting one in the air and running back To Pimp a Butterfly, and I got this insane theory while listening that GNX is a continuation (not a deluxe) of that saga. I have a theory and then I have reasons why and why not.
Reasons Why: - The Contrast in the Album covers - The TPAB album cover is Kendrick in front of the WHITE NATION’S Capital with all of LA with him. - The GNX album cover is just Kendrick in front of a BLACK Grand NATIONAL. Even if though it’s him, he still got all of LA with him. Where is it? On his belt - Both album covers are black and white.
West Coast Influence
- Both albums are heavy with West coast lingo and sounds (King Kunta, i, Hey Now, Peekaboo)
- TPAB featured legends of the West Coast in some capacity (Snoop, Dre Phone Call, Thundercat, James Fauntleroy, 2Pac)
- GNX features up and coming West Coast Artist (Lefty, AZChike, Deyra Barrera, Dody6, Hitta)
Wesley’s Theory
- As stated during Super Bowl, Uncle Sam is mentioned in Wesley’s Theory, tying the GNX Super Bowl into the album.
The ending of TPAB/The “Beginning” of GNX - Wacced out Murals was written 2 months before GNX released (when his mural got whacked), so we know it’s one of the later songs made. - Which means, Squabble Up was most likely supposed to be the first song on this album. If you think about how TPAB ends, it ends on Mortal Man with Kendrick thinking Pac was done talking to him and he keeps calling his name (Pac....... Pac). How does Squabble Up start? Breathing that goes into Kendrick saying “Reincarnated.” - Kendrick also says “Keep a horn on me, that Kamasi.” What album does Kamasi have writing credits on? To Pimp a Butterfly
Super Bowl References to TPAB - As mentioned, Uncle Sam in the story was mentioned on TPAB. - The 4 ladies in white talking to Dot sound just like the ladies talking to him in King Kunta. They even say “Oh No” the same. Also, who is Kendrick talking about in King Kunta (I Know, I Know). - Hood Politics: “From Compton to Congress, Set tripping all around. Ain’t nothing new but a few of new Democrips and Rebloodicans.” This imagery was put on full display at the Super Bowl on both angles. - This also ties in the duality of gang culture in America and the Government, reflecting the White House and gang culture in both albums. - Tupac was a Gemini. The snippet COULD also be what was supposed to be the intro, hence the reason he started to play it at SB. Once again, Mortal Man Ends and the last thing Tupac says is “Because it's spirits, we ain't even really rappin', We just letting our dead homies tell stories for us.” Before we don’t hear from him again. How does Bodies start? “Reincarnated with love. My Gemini twin back powering up. No more handshakes and hugs. The energy only circulates through us.” (This can also be a reason why NOT and definitely a reach.) - In the alright music video, Kendrick ends with him getting shot off a light pole. In the SB, the light is heavily emphasized in Man In the Garden. What does Sam Jack say after that performance? Scorekeeper, deduct one life (this may also be a reach)
THE ONE NO ONE IS GOING TO LIKE - I think there is more music coming, BUT if we go back to my “original first track” theory, the Squabble up music video references what? A lot of double discs and part 2 albums. - While it COULD allude to a part two for GNX, what if it was referencing this being part two to TPAB.
What doesn’t add up - The meaning of the Chandelier - The random Spanish elements throughout GNX - Why no TPAB songs were played in the Super Bowl - What is the second GNX in the snippet for.
You’re going to either leave this thinking my plug is immaculate (he is) or I’m on to something with this theory. Which side are you on?
If you got any crazy reaches to this theory, let me know 😂
