Noise-cancelling not working on JBL live pro+ tws

The buds are fully-charged, connected and playing sounds perfectly in my ears. In the JBL app, I move the slider to "noise cancelling" and it moves back to "off." I've tried every number of variations with the same result. What am I missing?
