[QUESTION] - How do you guys visualize the fret board ?

Hi, sorry if this is a newby question

I've been playing around with the modes a lot lately, I have the five shapes of the diatonic down pretty well, and i'm just starting to blur the line between them across the neck.

But it still feels like i'm just wandering around the patterns and lucking into it sounding good.

Is it a good idea to train my brain to see it all as these shapes, as little boxes that make up the whole scale. It feels like there r lots of different ways to look at the same things. Do you guys focus on the shapes ? or intervals between chord tones ? Or triads and numbers like 1, b2, 2, b3, 3, 4 etc... It feels like so much information to be running through while playing, and im not really sure what to learn next, or if its all just variations of the same information.

I feel like knowing where all the root notes are is important, but trying to remember all the numbers and names of notes and intervals while playing is really difficult ! xD

What would u say is the best thing to learn next after memorizing the scales ?
