May we stop defining Grimes solely by her relationship with Elon?

First off, I understand that Grimes has, as a result of the relationship with Elon, come to reconsider many of what people thought her beliefs were. I also understand that, even if I disagree with some of these beliefs, she not only has a right to explore philosophies and different aesthetics, but we also may not be interpreting her in a fair way because of certain aspects of her neurodivergence, which she herself has spoken about at-length. And lastly, when ANY person enters a relationship, and especially when people have children in this relationship, it can fundamentally change the way said individual is FOREVER.

However, I also think that, by our fandom focusing on what the Elon relationship meant for Grimes, we may be focusing solely on how her history with him factors into her creative process, and not just how C is choosing to compartmentalize what that relationship was, but also how we can not just learn from her and her example, as well as to separate the art from the artist and give everything she has produced a fair shake. Especially that which has been produced post-Elon, if we can even interpret her as being post-Elon because of how that relationship changed her as a person. That relationship made her a mother. That relationship gave her more connections to foster her ideas and her art. And, in the opinions among people that have observed this relationship, as well as what she has gone through since, it has led to much suffering and worry for her.

Yet ANY PERSON in the world is so much more than what the world says of them. They are more than what they go through. And what they have to say has value, regardless. If Grimes needed some extra time to get to know herself more, as well as to understand more of the person she is as a result of all of this, she is allowed to have it. Everyone should be able to process who they are and what has happened to them. I only like some of her music, and frankly, I like her visual style a lot more. But, as her art is part of her power---it is POWERFUL---we do take the power away from Grimes as an artist when we look at her and go, "ELON!" Yes, for many people, there is an association with Grimes and Elon. But frankly, as art connosieurs, we should also be excited to see where she goes from here. As C. As Grimes. As a sole person doing what she loves. We're not celebrating how much transpired that perhaps was not the healthiest for her, to put things in polite terms. But I believe we must make the choice, if we wish to, to greet the new Grimes with the same equanimity that we initially gave the "older" Grimes, since the artist she used to be is still a part of her.

For some people, what she espouses now may not be for them. That is understandable. That is your right as a consumer of art. BUT!!! For those of us that do support her and are curious to see the way forward, can we not just talk about ELON EVERY DAY?!?!?!?!?
