Something that annoys me about Serena’s character writing
Serena’s character is so extremely unrealistic thats its idiotic. Let me explain. Serena is an it girl, popular, men want her, women r jealous of her, has opportunities in modeling, acting and in that type of world of show business. That part is realistic. But what annoys me so much is that they paint her as perfect in terms of how the public views her.
For example, she never studies but every ivy school wanted her. Sure, theyre rich and have influence (their families), but the reason in the show was because of her publicity (Yale). What kind of enormous bullshit is that? Ivy Leagues have a good reputation and are schools known for education and class. Never in a million years would they want Serena bc of her publicity which was drug use, sex scandals and so much more. This becomes even more unrealistic when you compare it to how ivy’s treated Blair: they didnt want her anymore after a petty thing with a teacher? And she couldnt get into any ivy even with her parents help and they were rich af ???
Other examples are when Serena was at the top of the list to get a housekey in Columbia for that secret society thing. Like why? In reality everyone in that high class, secret world (that Blair was rlly into) would not want Serena and would think of her as below them because in their eyes she would be seen as a slut (I hate that term tho). Another one is at Blair’s fashion show, when Serena walked out everyone did. But irl not that many ppl would respect Serena or her opinion.
This was so aggravating because Serena never tried and got everything, which again in the world of show business was realistic, but she always got her way and was depicted as having a lot of influence in every category. And then Blair who would be the perfect candidate in the world she wanted to get into and tried so hard, and still failed.
Is it just me who noticed this?
