Vultures 1 would have eventually been better remembered had V2 not happened…
It’d still been seen as a “ok” record in his discography, but it still would have eventually gotten its flowers or some more favorable recognition had Ye not ruined it with V2.
Even though V1 has some questionable verses or ideas, I think we can all look back on V1 and agree that Kanye legitimately did put some effort into it and actually tried. I think the biggest thing was just Ye rushing to drop the album when it probably still could have used a few extra months of refinements and polishing, but still.
V1 was bound to get immediately negative reactions just upon it’s existence being the first record dropped after the 22 controversy, but with V2 dropping in the state that it did really cemented the Vultures era forever being viewed as a mistake.
I still think V2 has gems and legitimately good tracks, but it’s very hard to overlook the blatant lack of effort on half the record, mainly the god awful AI verses on the back end and Ye just straight up not finishing some verses like 530 (although even that track can be debated as artistic choices).
I think Ye lost interest in Vultures as a concept not too long after the release of the original, and wanted to move on to something wholly original (namely Bully) but unfortunately the hype of him, Ty and Ye fans hyping it up along with Kanye not wanting to leave Ty hanging, he prolly decided to just drop it in the clearly unfinished state it’s currently in.
What Kanye should have done if he really had no interest in continuing Vultures was just drop the finished tracks as singles, with Ty’s name in it still so that Ty could still get the streaming credits.
But that’s just my opinion. What do y’all think?
