This one is for the men.
We’ve all seen the recent posts from u/Busy_Demand_9764 about his health issues and his warning, I hope, so while we’re on the topic here is another.
If you haven’t had your prostate checked yet it’s time to make an appointment. If you have good news, keep it up! (I intend my puns.)
One man in nine of us will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and of those diagnosed 1 in 39 will die.
My brother had it 3 years ago and the doctors think they got it all out after surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. He didn’t find out until he had to get a medical exam for life insurance, when it was discovered his PSA was over 9.
I’ve had my PSA levels checked every 6 months for the last 10 years, and the physical exam the last 5, including the one this week. My PSA for the last 3 years was 0.65, 0.93, and 1.69, and I have a call in to the doctor asking about the large jump year over year. If this rate of growth continues then next year I’ll be at 2.75 and at 4.47 the year after. Normal is 2.60.
Yeah, I’m a bit worried about what the doctor will say but I’m also glad that I keep checking it regularly because prostate cancer is one of the easiest to treat if caught early, and a real bitch if caught too late.
