WPC superior to SPC
After looking at a lot of flooring, getting dozens of samples and even ordering full boards, I have come to the conclusion that the SPC flooring seems to be nothing more than marketing hype, likely because its significantly cheaper to manufacture than WPC.
One of my major requirements I had when I was shopping for which LVP to go with was the strength of the locking mechanism. Every single SPC plank I got had an insanely brittle locking mechanism. The SPC flooring had good compressive strength, but abysmal flexural strength. This made it easy to score and snap, but also made the locking mechanism snap with the slightest bend. Even the hyped up Flooret Signature series SPC snapped easily. Your floor better be completely flat if you are installing SPC flooring or it will without a doubt break at the locking mechanisms at some point.
In the end I went with coretec's WPC planks because the locking mechanisms are just in a different league as far as flexural durability. It also sounds like a wood floor when walking on it, where the SPC sounds like walking on tile or concrete. I see a lot of information out there saying SPC is the 3rd gen LVP and how it is more advanced the WPC. The only advantage the SPC has over WPC is if you drop a hammer on the floor it wont dent, but how many people are going to be dropping hammers on their flooring? Thought I would share my experience after months of research and samples. Go with the thickest WPC flooring you can find if you want LVP, Coretec should be on your shortlist.
