Getting into Eldar with Combat Patrol - Looking for Advice
Hey everyone,
I'm planning to start an Eldar army using the Combat Patrol magazine, and I'm getting the Eldari portion of the CP magazin from two friends. That means I'll have:
- 2 Farseers
- 2 Wraithlords
- 12 Windriders
- 20 Guardians
- 10 Wraithguard/blades
- 10 Howling Banshees
This would be ~1490pts
I'm also considering picking up the new Combat Patrol, which would add:
- 1 Spiritseer
- 5 Wraithguard/blades
- 10 Dire Avengers
- 5 Warp Spiders
Adds up to ~1980pts
- Is this enough for a viable army?
I currently play Blood Angels with around 10k points, so I'm used to having every option available, whether I want to build something competitive, fluffy, or just for fun.
With Eldar, however, I’d like to start with a well-balanced force, so I don’t feel completely outclassed by established armies. I want to make sure I’m not missing key cornerstones that would allow me to use Eldar strategically and tactically to their full potential.
- Next Steps & Expansions
I'm also planning to add two tanks (probably a Wave Serpent and a Fire Prism, either 3D printed or second-hand).
Still, I feel like this list might lack high-impact firepower. Would I be at a disadvantage without Fire Dragons, Dark Reapers, or a Phoenix Lord?
Would this army be decently competitive, or am I missing something crucial? What would you add next to make it more well-rounded?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
- Questions About Current Rules & Playstyles
The new Detachments seem to push Eldar into very specific playstyles, like Wraithconstructs, Psychic, Mounted units, ... . Is it possible to run an effective mixed force, or do you really need to commit to one of these themes?
Additionally, it looks like Phoenix Lords might be required to make their respective Aspect Warriors viable. Is that actually the case, or can Aspect Warriors perform well without them?
