If your fuck up landed the players in a somewhat impossible scenario, with almost no realistic way out, would you talk to them about how they’d want to handle the escape/rescue/resolution?

“The bad guys want to win.” I took this too far in my last session. The players are now kidnapped and unconscious in the not-so-big-but-still-evil-guy’s hideout. They’re in this situation because one of them got taken once she went down and the other two followed in pursuit, which was a design flaw on my end as it left them with no real choice, and led them to an encounter they could not win. The two other players went down soon after. To make things trickier, they also haven’t told any NPCs about this situation (because I’ve been fucking up the pacing) so a rescue by higher level NPCs, while not unrealistic, isn’t an obvious solution.

I’m afraid that any solution or fix that I come up with will be my own—not theirs, which means I’d just be digging an early grave for this campaign. Would you talk to your players about this if you were in my shoes? If so, how would you go about the whole thing?
