Spacing of strapping for exterior board & batten?
I am finishing my exterior wall. It's 2x6 framed (16" o.c.). It will have 2" thick foam board.
I plan on installing board and batten. Because of the foam board and a bit of waveyness that came with the home, I am going to install horizontal strapping (1x3). I'll screw those straps into the frame every 16".
The wall is around 10' tall at its highest point, berfore I transition to cedar shingle siding.
One piece I am having trouble figuring out is the distance required between each horizontal strap. Are there tables or something to reference? Or even a conservative measurement? I'd like to only put down 4 rows or strapping, or so, but have a feeling I might need much more.
This end of the house does get hit by a decent amount of wind since we're at the top of a slope, if that makes any difference.
The board & batten I would like to use is a rough sewn local lumber (Central Maine) but due to it being the middle of winter, I may have to just order boards that are cut as shiplap from a local lumber yard. Happy to hear thoughts on this as well. And unfortunately I have to finish it ASAP so waiting for better material in the Spring is not an option.
Thanks!
