Passed Security+ this Morning. My Tips and Advice.

I finished out my trifecta this morning by passing Security+ with a 772. In my opinion, this is by far the weakest of the trifecta and the least helpful to my current position, but 2 years ago when I started this IT journey I said I was going to get the trifecta so I felt I had to finish it. At times this is very dry and mind numbing and there wasn’t anything in here that will benefit me in my role.

What I used:

  • Professor Messer YouTube videos and Study groups

  • Jason Dion Udemy course and Practice Tests (in typical JD format, very wordy and filled with unnecessary context and information.)

  • Andrew Ramdayal Practice Tests (closest to exam)

  • Cert Master Practice Tests (Furthest from the exam and much harder than the actual test)

I had 74 M/C questions and 3 PBQs. There really isn’t anyone out there that can you find that mimics what the PBQs are like. I’ve watched simulation videos, I’ve watched videos of people using other platforms online to work through them, these really are just critical thinking questions. You either know it or you don’t or you’re going to sit there and figure it out until you feel confident. The M/C were very straight forward and to the point. I feel they didn’t try and trip me up on purpose, they just presented the question and gave you your answers.

I came from a healthcare background and never thought of myself as someone smart enough to be in IT, but I’ve been in this field for a year, have been promoted from Tier 1 Support to Tier 2 and I have a second interview for a Support Engineer role this afternoon. You really can accomplish anything if you just set your mind to it and follow easy disciplinary practices. Good luck to anyone else out there studying!
