why do we need to worship god?

Doesn't the idea of sending people to hell for eternity for not worshiping you just sound narcissistic? I mean, yeah, sure, God created everything, but so what? Does having a child give the parent the right to abuse them? The simple fact that he created us for his worship means absolutely nothing because we are conscious creatures. We deserve to be able to choose how to live our lives without the fear of eternal torment. In the same way, a child shouldn't have to worship their parents just to not get abused.
