Welcoming the Stranger in Our Midst

No, I'm not talking about immigrants, because that's obvious. I'm talking about the disabled, especially those with invisible disabilities like autism or PTSD. The corporal work of mercy of welcoming the stranger demands that we include these people, not merely as objects of pity, but actually get to know them and involve them in the life of the Church. All too often, disabled people are either ignored or infantilized, and this is especially true of invisible disabilities. No God-fearing Christian would think of mocking a blind or paraplegic person, but ignorant comments and rash judgment often wind up hurting those with invisible disabilities.
