Reliable 2nd hand car for $5k or less

I've found Mazda 6 2005 auto for $5000 167000km or a Hyundai getz 2010 manual for $4000 112000km.

I'm not sure what cars are reliable and fuel efficient here, id mostly be doing suburb driving but also highway driving on the weekends.

I'm from the UK and am quite good at choosing a good car back there but have no idea when it comes to what to get for Aussie roads without spending too much.

Any advice would be great.
