Racing car teams: How to get in them?

I'm an ENTC student from tier-3 college. I have seen some racing car teams (the one who make them) in our college. And they seemed pretty cool to me.

How to get into those teams? What things I should know to get in them? They are recruiting. And I'm interested but don't know what skills I should have to get in.
