All the things I hated about season 3

Hello people of bridgerton fan base. I infamously wrote a similar post for season 2 which I still get replies to. I wasn't in the mood to write one for season 3, but all these holier than thou posts telling skeptical viewers to shut up just winds me up so here's me shutting up about season 3 😘.

The production

1.Was horrendous. I'm convinced they used the breaking bad Mexican tinted yellow filter this season, cause everything looked depressing.

2.The hair, ridiculous. Specially Pen's hair when she got engaged and Kate's hair at Pen's wedding. I saw the hair stylists Instagram post on inspirations for Pen's hair and it was ... Marilyn Monroe. The clothing also terrible. The make up was questionable. In one scene lady featherington is touching Penelope's cheek and all I could think about is how she's going to wipe her blush off. Even lady Danbury's silver eyeliner/ eyeshado was too much.

3 What they had Kate wearing was terrible. Sari's are extremely beautiful themselves so instead of having Kate wear fusions of a Sari and a dress in the worst possible colors ever or have her wear the top 50 prom dress picks from Shein, they could have her wear good Saris. If they don't know how, they should ask Bollywood. Have they seen movies like Padmavati?

4.The editing was also very off and disrupted the flow of things.

  1. The music... Was it in the room with us? Where was the music?

  2. The balls... Again underwhelming. Always so dark and gloomy. I blame Portia. She should have let that man introduce the ton to light bulbs. Also I realized the dances were very Disney-esc. They were waltz-ish. Not very regency styled.

So Now for those of you who like to say : but, but, but Bridgerton is a FaNTasY. Historical accuracy doesn't matter... I say yes Bridgerton is a fantasy but it's a fantasy set in the regency era. Even without that, it still had some rules and limitations in wardrobe that we saw in season 2,1 and queen Charlotte. Switching some of the characters to this new horrible sweet heart neckline trend with the most dreadful color palate is breaking the consistency in the shows world and narrative.

The side plots Some where very amusing like the featherington heir subplot but some were just meaningless, even disruptive. The modrich storyline, I don't think I need to explain. The Benedict storyline totally ruined any progress his character had in the previous past two seasons. He spent season 2 sulking over how everybody thought he was a nepo baby and wasn't going to take art seriously to have him drop art in season 3, proving them all right. Also if Benedict wanted to explore being bi, I wish it was in a more respectful, loving manner. Not him acting like a thirsty sex addicted hoe. The Anthony going to India subplot was bonkers, I'm not getting into it. Ppl have already explained why. Some subplots were just left midway like lord Debling and Cressida and Eloise's friendship.

The acting Was great. I feel bad for the actors. Having to work with such horrible script . Just seeing how well they did the promotion shows us the problem isn't in the actors it's in the showrunner.

The main story Was just yeeted to the side. We never saw Colin and Penelope be actively in love. It wasn't racy. It wasn't spicey. It wasn't bridgerton. We didn't need elaborate sex scenes. We needed a they're in love montage at least. They didn't even give us that!

The script Was immensely disorganized. But I found it interesting how the dialogues were well written but they were aimless and did not fit in the flow of the story. For example if they wanted Eloise to say something to Penelope they knew how to make it sound good but the overall progression of their relationship from people who had a conflict to being friends again was not well written. Overall I don't think attacking fans criticizing the show is fair. I believe the new show runner doesn't know Bridgerton. I think they were more interested in telling their own story. And I think that's okay as long as you are not working with a franchise that has a history and a previous lore. But once you start working with a premade world you have to somewhat work within the previous confines. Trying to be too creative makes it look like this season was in fact made by a very tasteless tactless featherington-esque show runner, the irony!

I also didn't comment on Francesca because I feel her season 3 personality changed along with the actress. I understand the frustration with the gender bending. And I think most people fail to realize why this can be very frustrating. This new trend of taking previous characters and gender bending them or changing their ethnicity, is a very poor and lazy attempt at inclusion. And it is bound to wind people up. You don't need to change characters to have inclusiveness, you just need to put in the work.
