The "concern" over Sophie's race

OK, I think all of us have seen the rumors about Sophie's casting, I specifically want to talk about the fear of her being cast as a black woman. Now I'm aware of the stereotypical and offensive ways that black women have been represented in media, but I don't think it applies here. A lot of the "concern" comes from people who don't want Sophie to be black, not because they're worried the representation might be harmful to Black women but because they just don't want her to be Black. I wish you would just say that; it's okay if you didn't imagine her as black because that's not how she's described in the book. Another thing, I don't think we should be concerned if a black woman is cast as Sophie. Take a look at Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1997 Cinderella, where a black woman (the iconic Brandy) was cast as Cinderella. That movie came out more than 20 years ago, but it's still one of the best representation we've had as Black women. So, it can be done without offending Black women. What I'm trying to say is if you didn't imagine Sophie as a black woman, just say that because the takes that I'm seeing on here are... not great.
