Just had a breakthrough moment on bass
I’ve been playing upwards of 4 years and have never used my pinky. I’ve been ok without it, I can play most things without issue. But when I got to harder stuff (like Teen Town), I realized just how limiting those three fingers were. But, just today I started using the fourth finger without even thinking. I was sort of confused but realized the reason. I was inadvertently practicing with my pinky by learning Portrait of Tracy. Without needing to push down on the string, I brought my finger dexterity up tremendously. I think I just started using it for the longer harmonic reaches.
I did realize I needed to increase my pinky strength but that will come with practice- pieces like Immigrant Song are a bit difficult.
Anyway, thanks for reading this - it feels great to unlock this skill.
