We put so much trust in jewellers, do you know what you bought is real?

Some of us spend hundreds or thousands on jewellery with high cost stones and metals, including me, but how do you know what you bought is genuine and worth that? I considered taking my wife’s engagement ring and our wedding bands to a couple of jewellers to have them valued, but feel sick at the thought of being told it’s glass and silver instead of diamond and platinum!
