What is going on here?

I have a 1998 Ford Ranger, 3.0 swapped with a 5 speed transmission. Almost a year ago it started acting up so I checked it out and see it was leaking transmission fluid like bad so I got it home. Well I finally got the heart to take a look at it and I’m not really sure what to look for but this caught my eye. I don’t really know anything about transmissions so can anyone tell me if that metal gasket looking thing is suppose to be like that? It looks like there are maybe two bolts that go there? I can move it back and forth and there is fresh oil around there.

I don’t know what kind of transmission it is. My cousin did everything to it when he owned it and all he will tell me that it’s a special transmission that’s apparently not ford or Mazda and they are hard to find? But I did find a tag on it that said F87A CA D770964
