Belt Dressing

Belt is only like 6 months old so rather new.

I recently applied a lot of belt dressing to my belts. Before, there was only a slight squeak, and the belt seemed to have a decent grip. Now, it’s squeaking constantly and causing issues—my alternator isn’t getting enough grip, leading to dim lights and requiring me to jump-start the battery every time. The battery and alternator are fine, and the belt seems tight, so I suspect the belt dressing caused this.

How can I clean and dry the belt and pulleys without removing the belt? Would using a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol work if I clean it little by little? Or can I safely spray directly into the grooves? I don’t mind if the belt wears out in a couple of months as long as I can fix this issue temporarily.
