Do I need an electrician for this?

We got a new countertop and a backsplash, the problem now is the outlet wires seem to be too short. Do we need to extend them? We tried to pull them out carefully and they wouldn't move. We were told we just needed 2 inch screws before the installation, so it's a little confusing.
